This special screening benefitted two special organizations: Clearwater Marine Aquarium and the Challenged Athletes Foundation.

Dolphin Tale is the extraordinary story of Winter the Dolphin, a resident animal of Clearwater Marine Aquarium. In December of 2005, Winter was rescued by CMA off the east coast of Florida. She was just a baby calf, entangled in a crab trap. The rope of the trap had cut off all circulation to Winter's tail. Eventually, Winter's tail fell off, usually an injury that dolphins are unable to overcome.

Through determination and incredible will power, Winter was able to recover. Hanger Prosthetics, a company that makes prosthetic limbs for human amputees, heard about Winter and sought to make a prosthetic tail for her. Using her prosthesis, Winter has learned to swim like all other dolphins. Her story has inspired thousands of people all over the world.

In September of 2010, Alcon Films and Warner Bros. began production on Dolphin Tale, a major motion picture inspired by Winter's story.

The film stars Harry Connick, Jr., Ashley Judd, Morgan Freeman and Kris Kristofferson. The film will be released world-wide September 23rd, 2011. Clearwater Marine Aquarium will celebrate the area's first major motion picture and Winter's silver screen debut with an EXCLUSIVE special screening of Dolphin Tale on September 21st, 2011 at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater.
