BUBBA GUMPS's RELEASE JULY 8, 2014
Clearwater Marine Aquarium released a rehabilitated Green sea turtle, Bubba Gump, this Tuesday morning, July 8 at 10am on Honeymoon Island.
Bubba Gump was taken into Clearwater Marine Aquarium's rehabilitation facility on March 2, 2014 due to a buoyancy disorder and lack of nutrition. He was found floating face down in Tarpon Springs, as he was unable to dive and remain submerged, affecting his ability to forage for food. After four months of intense medical care and treatment at CMA, Bubba Gump is now ready to be released back into the Gulf of Mexico.
Bubba Gump's release is Clearwater Marine Aquarium's eighth turtle release in 2014 and seventh Green sea turtle release this year. A Loggerhead sea turtle was released this past January.

Chesapeake and Tina Releases
We are excited to announce that two of our long term sea turtle patients were cleared for release, and placed back into the wild! Chesapeake was our first recent success, a Green turtle, that was found floating off Anclote Key in May 2012. She originally was rehabilitated for boat strike wounds, barnacle growth and GI tract issues, but her status changed when papilloma tumors formed last November. After two successful removal surgeries, she was cleared by staff on June 4th, and released off Honeymoon Island in Dunedin. The second was Tina, a Loggerhead that was found floating, lethargic, and emaciated in waters near New Port Richey in April 2012. After numerous glucose tests, insulin shots and experiments with her exercise and diet, Tina was able to maintain a healthy glucose level and was cleared by staff on June 14th. Her release was held off Clearwater Beach.
Quinley was released on July 25, 2013. Our summer camp kids got the unique opportunity to come out and watch Quinley make his way back to the ocean!
