This FREE speaker series is geared toward anyone wanting to learn more about marine life. Shows take place in CMA's Bright House Theater every third Thursday of the month from 6 to 8 pm and explore varied topics such as sharks, turtle nesting, and other interesting facets of aquatic life.

May 16, 2013 - Dr. Michael Walsh, University of Florida
Dr. Steve Murawski
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Hear "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" news about the Gulf of Mexico and our oceans. Former NOAA Fisheries Chief Scientist and now USF Research Professor, Dr. Murawski delivers current truth about oil spill impacts, loss of juvenile fish, red tide, overfishing and more!

June 20, 2013 - Dr. Ann Weaver, Argosy University
Dr. Ann Weaver monitors the dolphin population in Boca Ciega Bay. Dr. Weaver can recognize more than 150 dolphins by the shape of their dorsal fin. Dr. Weaver will share her experiences with wild dolphin populations, dolphin identification techniques and population behaviors.
July 18, 2013 - Andy Garrett, Marine Mammal Pathobiology Laboratory
The majority of recovered manatee carcasses are transported to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's (FWC), Marine Mammal Pathobiology Laboratory (MMPL) for necropsy. Join us as we discuss case studies and current research focused on manatee conservation.
August 15, 2013 - Dr. Donny Smoak, University of South Florida
Dr. Smoak examines freshwater wetlands and mangrove systems (coastal wetlands) to assess the wetlands current contribution to the global carbon budget, and how the contribution may change as the climate warms. These investigations are being conducted at several sites in Brazil and in the Florida Everglades.
September 19, 2013 - Dr. Heather Judkins, University of South Florida
Dr. Judkins will discuss her current studies concerning deep sea cephalopods.
October 17, 2013 - Dr. Teresa Greely, University of South Florida
Join us as Dr. Greely discusses the constructive and destructive history of volcanoes, as well as the fate and impact of large volumes of volcanic debris settling in the seafloor over millions of years.
November 21, 2013 - White Pelicans - Which is Which?
Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary/Clearwater Marine Aquarium
Join us as we discuss the American White Pelican found along our coastal waterways and compare them to our movie star African Great White Pelicans, Ricky and Lucy, each of which played "Rufus" in the box office hit, Dolphin Tale.
